Message from the RI Chapter President Email 02-23-2023

Greetings, Fellow RI CPCU Chapter Members,

It is my pleasure to serve as your RI CPCU Chapter president for the 2023 year.  For those that don’t know me, I obtained my CPCU in 2003 with my conferment in New Orleans. 20 years already, where did the time go!  I have been a member of the RI Chapter since obtaining my designation, serving on the board several years in a variety of roles.

For me, this year’s focus can be summed up in a couple words, chapter engagement and growth!  You will hear me mention those words a lot in 2023.  This year I’m very excited to bring back more in person meetings for the RI chapter. I’ve missed seeing people in person. We had a very successful meeting where we had our installation of new officers, our local conferment and presented the RI CPCU Cares grant winner presentation.  The meeting at Chelo’s in Warwick was complimentary to all new CPCU Designees and RI Chapter members.  I’m really looking forward to our next meeting so I can meet and see more RI Chapter members, their family and friends!

Our next meeting is this Thursday February 16^th at a new venue West Passage in my hometown of North Kingstown RI (7835 Post Road, North Kingstown).  We are excited to host Ellen Mecray from NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration).  Ellen is the Regional Climate Director for the Eastern Region.  Our event will take place at 6PM with registration starting at 5:30PM.  It is a great place to check out.

We have been made aware that not everyone is getting our chapter emails, we are working on resolving that issue as soon as possible.  In case you haven’t received our emails you can sign up for the next meeting using this link to register  February RI CPCU Chapter Meeting

Scholarships Available

The Rhode Island Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriters (CPCU) Scholarship Fund is once again seeking candidates for its annual scholarship awards. These awards will range from $2,500 to $4,000 and are given to the applicants exhibiting the highest level of academic excellence. The winners will be recognized at the Chapter’s June awards banquet (pending review) or via a virtual zoom meeting. Applications are due by April 15, 2023.

Eligibility

To be eligible, the applicant must:

1. a: be working in the insurance industry in Rhode Island or working in the insurance industry elsewhere and be a resident of Rhode Island, or an active member of the RI Chapter CPCU, or;

2. b: be the spouse, child, stepchild, dependent, brother, or sister of a person who is either working in the insurance industry in Rhode Island or who is working elsewhere in the insurance industry and is a resident of Rhode Island, or an active member of the RI Chapter CPCU; and

3. be enrolled at an accredited two or four year college or university in a full time associate’s degree or bachelor’s degree program; and

4. not have been awarded this scholarship in the past. Prior unsuccessful candidates may re-apply.
